Tatiana Suarez
THE FIGHTER
Tatiana Suarez is undefeated and may be the best pure wrestler in the history of women's MMA. Her NCAA Division II wrestling background and the dominance she showed through her TUF 23 victory and subsequent UFC appearances established her as a fighter who, when healthy, simply cannot be stopped by the women's strawweight division. She takes people down at will, controls them completely, and finishes fights with either ground and pound or submission from dominant positions.
The injury problem has been the central tragedy of her career. She has dealt with neck injuries, knee injuries, and long layoffs that have kept her from competing for extended periods at the exact moments when she should have been climbing to the title. Her return fights have shown the wrestling is still elite and the finishing ability is intact, but the breaks in activity mean she has had to rebuild momentum repeatedly.
She is a legitimate title contender every time she steps back into the cage, and the strawweight division has never fully figured out how to deal with her wrestling. The question is whether she can stay healthy long enough to get the title opportunity her undefeated record deserves.
